I love Thursdays.
Anyway, after seeing all my lovely friends again and asking the obligatory grades questions, we discovered that our form room is G32, which is teeny. Even though we have the biggest form in the year. There are less seats than people.
But oh well!
well, I'm back
I was back yesterday too, but I had 10625 emails (approx.)[1] and many many newsgroup messages and other random things to do, as well as unpacking and eating and stuff, so this is my first opportunity to update.
Anyway. The Discworld Convention was the most fun thing in the history of ever ever, and I am so going to the next one whether you like it or not. On the downside it meant I owed Dad huge sums of money, although I've payed some of it back and now owe him only £11. Until I borrow money to top up my mobile phone[3] and buy Kermit's Swamp Years (out today! buy it buy it!). Fortunately I know very few people with birthdays this month (Lisa... Kerry... hm.) I'll write an et cetera for you later if I can be bothered.
France was pretty but not that thrilling, although good seafood. We started off staying with Chris and June at Le Bois Conté in Normandy, friends of my dad who have horses and stuff. Chris works for the same place as Dad, just from afar instead. Also their friends Len and Maureen were there. While the lot of us ate out, the wire in the top bit of my brace came out while I ate pasta.[4]
Then we went to Bénodet, in Brittany. In Brittany all the signs are in two languages (French and Breton) which was fun. Like being in Wales, only hotter.
While we were there I got sunburn and food poisoning, and two more parts of my brace broke.
In Concarneau/Konk-Kerne the petit train had a sign on the back saying "Do not leave your clothes in Concarneau"!
Then we went back to Chris and June's, and then we went home.
I have weird, patchy arms. They're brownish up to my elbows, then I have stripes of burntness and whiteness up to my shoulders. Odd.

[1] Okay, maybe not. [2]
[2] All this Discworlding has made me want to put footnotes everywhere.[5]
[3] The first time I'll have ever topped it up with my own money, and the second time I'll have ever topped it up at all, I should note.
[4] I'm allowed to eat pasta. Is pasta chewy or sticky? Is it made of pineapple? No. Huh.
[5] This is the last footnote because I'm sure it's annoying.
farewell
To celebrate my supreme brilliance at everthing except French, I bought a book with a very long title. Here goes:
The History of Middle-Earth Volume 6: The Lord of the Rings: Part 1: The Return of the Shadow. By Christopher Tolkien.
Anyway, what with France and DWCon, this is the last entry until September 2nd or thereabouts. So see you!
j'ai mal à la speaking French aujourd'hui

normality of the mouth
Re-squaring a total success. "Now, make sure you keep your tongue well back in your mouth. I'm putting acid on your teeth, and if you got any on your tongue... it would be bad." Oh, very reassuring.
You know, I think that was maybe Mr Chate. The mysterious person who is supposed to be my ortho but in fact always leaves his assistant (Miss McCarthy, I think) to deal with my teeth.
Consignia (i.e. the Post Office) sent me a snazzy little weighing thing so I can weigh my post and work out how much it'll cost me. I spent £4.20 on postage today... mostly postcards, though.
Also, I went to the library. Again. I got The Penguin Book of the City, The Treason of Isengard (The History of Middle-Earth Volume 7) by Tolkien, Daughter of Regalis by Stephen Donaldson and Lord Foul's Bane by... Stephen Donaldson, again. Never heard of the guy, but there you are.
Dervy had surgery today for carpal tunnel syndrome... hope she's okay. Poeie had her wisdom teeth out last week and was allergic to her pain medication... Alana had her brace tightened... too many of my friends are in pain this week! Not so good.
And a couple of links for you (1 | 2) about language-y things.
woohoo!
I passed my exam... Katy is now First Degree Priestess Katy!
Now I've just got to pass my AS levels.
Barbarella
A very, very funny, tragically awful sci-fi film.
I liked the invisible key thing. "I'll put it around your secret neck!"
Everyone should watch it.
Tomorrow I'm going to the hospital to be re-squared. Joy.
1. If I could guarantee that the Fashion Police would not lay the smackdown on you, which favorite out-of-style article of clothing do you wish you could wear right now? (and if you have photos of you wearing it, post 'em)

I don't know. What things do I have that are in style right now? But I wish I was wearing my stripy socks... but then there won't be time to re-wash them before the convention, and they're kind of important for my costume. Most of the time I'm out of style, though... I'm wearing black leggings and a blue tshirt with Le Petit Prince on it.

2. In your opinion, who is famous but shouldn't be?
Sophie Ellis Bextor.

3. Are there any new movies or TV shows that you are forward to this fall?

Movies, I want to see... Goldmember, LOTR:TTT, Divine Secrets (in October... for once I wish I was in America, they've had it for ages...), Tomb Raider 2, the RD movie (although those two probably aren't even out this year). TV shows. Hm... I'm not sure.

4. If you had a time machine that you could use only one time (there and back), where would you go and what would you do?

Oh. Um. To a time just after I've bought a ticket for the RD movie so I can see it lots of times, I guess. For I am a geek.
A place machine would be better.

5. What cologne of perfume do you like to wear? Which brand do you prefer that your partner wear?

I don't wear perfume. I'm too lazy, and it does bad things to my skin, anyway.

6. Do you recall your first "French kiss?" Tell me about how that felt, and how it came about. Do you like them?

N/A.

7. Excluding your partner...If you had the opportunity, who would you most like to Frech kiss?

Hm. Tricky. At this precise second, Anita Pallenberg, because I just watched Barbarella and she's yummy. But usually... Chris Barrie, Dan Aykroyd, Sevvie (haha!) or Hazel.

BONUS: Can't you see that it's late at night?

Maybe in your timezone.
ow ow
I bit one of my brace-squares off at the party. Ick and ow.
The hat party was fun... I got to wear the witch hat and my sunglasses, and apparently everyone at the train station was giving me evils. Heh.
I love my netfriends
Doe: BTW Tyler, where the fuck do you get off being both cute AND a talented writer?
update
I updated the 'about me' page, because bits of it were wrong and I was bored.
In other news, I beat Civilisation! I love when that happens.
doom!
One week until exam results!
black suits coming
Seeing as I had to go into town today anyway to get my all-new snazzy prescription sunglasses (I love them. But, wearing sunglasses makes me pretend to be Elwood. Dammit. Now I can read on the beach with both eyes open!), and I can't leave the brother at home by himself, we went to see Men in Black 2. Oh wait. Men in Black II, sorry. It was mildly amusing, good but not great. And, all the same things happen.
The Statue of Liberty thing was cool, though.
Wow, I got thousands of emails today. Coolness.
Also... I bought bangles for my costume (still no pipecleaners... the only place that had any was WHSmiths, and they were all pink. Ek.), and went to the library.
In case I lose any of them, a list: Light in the Head by Brian Langan; The Ice People by Maggie Gee; Big Fibs Little Fibs by Joanne Simms; ThiGMOO by Eugene Byrne; Galatea 2.2 by Richard Powers; All Tomorrow's Parties by William Gibson. Ok, and I bought the Highway Code.
Apparently the speed of light is not a constant. Hm.
And, a link to Naomi's site.
The Cramp twins is a very odd program on CBBC. But, I love how the good twin is called Lucian and the bad one is called Wayne. Heh.
Oh! And I got the Penpals LMAO today, groovily.
joy
Email from Matthew P... he went to Egypt and scuba-ed. I'm so jealous.
But he didn't buy a camel.
In other news: I found my library card! You can stop panicking!
yeek!
This incredibly slowed down version of Beethoven's 9th is damn creepy.
In other news, I have a net-stalker. Yeep.
Woohoo!
And the computer is now officially, 100% fixed. Thank you, thank you.
And here is my BlogTree link (also added over with the BlogChalk thing, on the left) -- that sound? Me jumping on the bandwagon.
But who cares?
Two whole people like my layout (Laursifer and Noora, if you care) so I'm happy... also email from Kathryn, which is always fun.
And an email from Michael:
"Sorry for the late reply but I have only just logged on (get the technical term, cool eh?)"
Don't you love him?

it's alive!
Well, undead, at any rate. But the net is being kind of odd... really really ancient version of IE, as far as I can tell. But mostly it's okay again, and at least it's not virussy.
Monday Mission
1. Ever considered just deleting your Blog and not doing it anymore? What prompted that and what stopped you?
Umm... no, no I haven't. Blogs are fun.
2. How about a quick review of the last movie you saw?
Let's see... that would be uh... Scooby Doo, I guess. Very funny, so the cartoon, and the Scrappy thing? Perfect. Although Daphne was wrong.
Possibly Minority Report was actually more recent... I forget. That was slightly confusing but very good, although too many eyeballs for my liking.
Both good. Didn't look at my watch during either one.
3. What's your favorite gadget? Are you lusting for any new ones? Will you ever be satisified???
I want one of those torch things that shine their light in the shape of what time it is. Matthew P has one. I want.
4. Saturday night I played "UNO" for the first time in years, I mean it has been over 10 years since I played it. It was great fun, but it really made me want to learn how to play Backgammon again. What "table game" do you enjoy playing most with other people? Have you played it lately?
Ak, boardgames. Us Bobs get way too competitive when it comes to them... whichever one I'm best at is probably my favourite. I refuse to play Scrabble with Dad, ever again. But the other day I won a card game! And Dad was playing against me! Woohoo!
5. About a year ago I was obsessed with loosing weight, and I dropped pretty low before I got a handle on things (I've actually gained about 8 pounds of it back, and it is still a struggle sometimes to not try to loose it). Thankfully, I like fattening sweets and buttery popcorn too much to live like that for too long. Have you ever been obsessed with something so much that it was close to causing you physical or mental harm? If not, have you known anyone else who has?
When I was a little beanlet I used to drink cough medicine. Yummy. Although not the best of plans.
6. Did you grow up in a family or community that displayed racist or prejudice attitudes? Did it influence you in any way, either toward or away from those views? How did you manage to avoid it, or did you?
Hm. Well, I don't think I'm racist. I'd never deliberately be evil to someone just because of their race or whatever. But around here there's not a whole lot of racial diversity... if I moved somewhere more diverse (which as I know about ten RL people who are non-Caucasian right now wouldn't be too hard) I might, y'know, accidentally really insult someone. I tend to do things like that, because I don't really listen to half the stuff that comes out of my mouth.
Other than that... um... my mum finds homosexuality bit weird, but I think that's just a generational/upbringing kind of thing, and it's not like she hates all people who are gay or anything.
Oh wait... Americans. Both my parents and my grandad think all Americans are stupid. This has kind of rubbed off on me, although none of the Americans that I know are actually particularly dumb, so that prejudice is disappearing anyway.
And me and Mum are spelling/grammar snobs. But that's about all.
7. Good grief, I am starving! You got anything to eat around here?
Um... I think Matthew's eating sausages, that do you?
BONUS: What did you tell them?
Nothing, I swear!
that time again
Well, yet again the computer is too ill to live, so I'm going to have to take everything off and put it all back on again. I may be some time...
update
New Alchera collab, pretty early this month, eh?

squint
Apparently my eyes have not changed, so I don't get new glasses at all this time, for at least another year. But wait! I am getting prescription sunglasses at last, so that I can read on the beach. I hate beaches... all that sand. Ick. And shrieking petits.
Thanks to the lovely NHS and the fact that I'm still in full-time education, I apparently only have to pay for the tint. Odd.
With my glasses on I can read all the little letters right down to the bottom. Without them I can just about see the massive A at the top. I hate that.
The sib is at Guide camp for a whole week now, which means I have to be the one who a) makes sure Matthew is alive and has eaten something and b) unloads the dishwasher, hangs out the washing, etc. etc. (which means I get more workmoney, so technically that's an ambivalent thing rather than a bad thing).
I couldn't find any pipecleaners in town... I need them to make my hat go the right shape, but there were none anywhere. In Forbidden Planet they have the lovely Muppet models (£12 each... Kermit, Miss Piggy, Bunsen and Dr Teeth were the ones I saw) and these huge Kermits, Robins and Fozzies which I want. Dammit.
However, I did accidentally by Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000. What? It was £9.99 and I had £16, what do you expect? I have a scarily large amount of Dan Aykroyd things now. Maybe it's another obsession.
Too many obsessions. I am a crazy fangirl. And I want a b4k4 hat to prove it.
Where did Matthew and the parents go, hmm? I'm sure they told me at some point, but I forget. Never mind.
oh, I don't know
I can't decide whether I like these colours or not, but it'll do for now, eh? Well, anyway.
I discovered that, when my hair is really short (like it is now, since I got it cut on Wednesday) and I take off my glasses, I look like a boy. This is not fun.
My mum's office have decided to make a production of Robin Hood, I'm guessing for team-building. She gets to be a peasant woman. I find this rather odd.
Since one of the parish council people is moving to New Zealand, Dad wants to join it. Then he can complain to even more people! :) Apparently they want to get rid of the recycling banks, my parents are Not Happy.
