Half term is good for sleeping... but maths homework is hard. Can't integrate hyperbolics :(
Got a letter from Durham saying 'hi! We've got your application!'. Must write covering letters.
Have many letters to post and no money. Also, many emails to answer. Meh.

Kathryn's party was way cool :) vodka, cake, Monsters Inc. and Disney Trivial Pursuit. Fun.

rain

Oh, it's raining. Stupid British weather. So I am all dripped on and wearing my warmest (yet also uncoolest) jumper.
Tomorrow I have reviews allll day. Hee :)

Queen Mobius

Today I feel very mathematical, despite the fact that I can't do my further maths homework (integrating hyperbolics... meh). Which is always fun.
We are listening to Starsailor, which is possibly not one word, and it's pretty... but depressing.
In Further Maths (as well as discovering that tomorrow is the last hyperbolics lesson, fortunately) we were given a list of possible topics for our maths coursework. I think I'm going to do infinity. Here is my favourite link on it so far. The others were all ones that people had already done (fractals, Fibonacci), really boring/difficult (MacLaurin's expansions) or not interesting enough to get a whole project out of (birthday problems... way too 'Emma's Dilemma' for me). So - yeah...
PSE I just read my book, mostly. It's The Difference Engine by William Gibson and uhm... Bruce Sterling (?). It's about what would have happened if computers had been invented in 1855, which is a truly bizarre concept. But very good so far.
By the way, what the hell is up with Mostly Harmless? And So Long And Thanks For All The Fish, come to think of it. Weird.
Aaanyway. Then we had maths, and Gemma and Jessie coerced me into helping to kill Mrs Norman. It was reviews day (although I didn't have mine yet) so we just did some of a really boring exercise on the product rule. It would have been boring anyway, but it was especially boring seeing as I'd already done all of it for further maths.
Physics was odd. Everyone was hyper, especially since you could see me, Sam and Joyce in the projector so we were waving at ourselves. Ha. Also, we learned the Hello, Sailor rule, and Mr Metcalfe did an impression of a field line. Which was just... weird.
On the bus, me, Sam and Rhiannon were talking about parallel universes, mirror images and higher dimensions. Then I got bored and started making Mobius strips. Me and Ryan used them as crowns, so now we are King and Queen Mobius. Hee. Anyway... that's it.

Friday Five

1. If you could only choose 1 cd to ever listen to again, what would it be?
um... probably the Cats soundtrack. Music is not all-important.

2. If you could only choose 2 movies to watch ever again, what would they be?

Blues Brothers and um... Muppets Take Manhattan. Although I'm reserving judgement until after the RD film is out.

3. If you could only choose 3 books to read ever again, what would they be?
TORTURE! I would clearly go mad.
Okay um... my massive book with all 5 Hitchhiker books combined in it, one of the Discworld anthology ones (probably the Death one) and... War and Peace. Although probably I would go crazy if this happened.

4. If you could only choose 4 things to eat or drink ever again, what would they be?
Hm. Kedgerie, raita, the weird pasta/pesto/feta thing and probably... tea.

5. If you could only choose 5 people to ever be/talk/associate/whatever with ever again, who would they be?
Oh good grief.
Lisa, obviously, cause she's a dude.
And probably... hmm. Probably Poet, Dervla and Lauren.
And... Marloes. Yeah.
This is a really mean question, you know.

edits

Hm... Luvsie is so lucky! She's going to Dimension Jump in April, and she won the shirt Chris Barrie wore in Psirens. Jealous jealous.
Also, I smooshed the sidebars for the extras page because it annoyed me having them on both sets of pages, and I'm editing for typos and the like. So okay.

New Alchera Buzz. Also, my UCAS acknowledgement card came. :)

Official Day of Pointlessness

So today I went into school, gave Stephen two videos, went to registration and then went to Physics.
Physics had been cancelled, because the Physics teacher's wife went into labour at about 7am. So I was in school for all of oh... fifteen minutes?
So I went shopping. I bought Alice's birthday present, Cara's birthday present, and some stickers. Also I wanted to get a feather boa for Kathryn's feather party... but no. See, a feather boa costs about £10, but a metre of maribou (like feather boas but falls to bits more and is thinner) is £1.85. So I bought maribou instead.
Also I went to the library. Dad gave me his oh-so-thrilling book about parish councils to take back, so I had to pay a fine of £1.32 which I took out of my lunch money :P
Can't remember all of the books I got out as they're allll the way in the hall, but one of them is the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy (yes, all five of them) and another is The Difference Engine.
The day before yesterday me and the sib were talking about where random people live, and where Adam is moving to. So we were consulting an atlas. At this point I realised that I didn't actually know where half the countries in Europe are, and there was even one I'd never heard of (Belarus). Oops.
So, as I'd left my book at home and had a lot of sitting around doing nothing time (orthodontist's reception area, the bus, etc.) I learned them all. And their capital cities.
Very handy for pub quizzes.

I have just posted a short thing to the etceteras called Words in the Head, for Alchera.
Also... Physics is really boring. But you knew that, right?

Happy birthday, Aditi! :)

heehee

Jamie Youngs was on the bus. His insults for the day were that Stephen's mum is a prick, everyone has stupid hair (well... his was so stupid noone could look at him without laughing) and that Jonathan was just a little boy. This is particularly hilarious since Jonathan is giantly tall, but Jamie is about 4 foot 5.
School was boring... in Further Maths we're doing hyperbolic functions, which so far aren't too bad (and coth is a good word) but I expect will become impossible by tomorrow morning.
Stupid Yahoo!Mail won't let me in. Grr.
PSE... well, we mostly had no interviews and just complained about homework, and that. Then Maths was more thrilling partial fractions, which aren't too bad apart from the complete dullness of them.
Physics was again dull (although talking to Sam and Emily is always fun so not all bad, eh?) and next week we have a test on capacitors. I hate them. Stupid physics.
On the bus I talked to Sam and Jonathan allll the way home about Red Dwarf, transvestism, ties and my haircut. So that was all cool.
And now.... I must eat.

The Saturday 8 (only 1 day late!)

Saturday-8: "When I was a Kid..."
  1. What was your favorite song? Do you remember it word for word now?
Sadly, it was probably the Ghostbusters theme song. Although bizarrely I'd never seen it at that point. I can probably do the chorus and a few of the verses if I think about it, although not in the right order... but I have an mp3 of it somewhere.

  2. What was your favorite cartoon? If you watch cartoons now... what is your current favorite?
Perhaps you can help me here. There was my ultimate favourite cartoon, but I can't remember what it was called. I think it was on ITV, if that helps you.
Anyway, the main characters were all cat-people (they had cat-heads but they walked on 2 legs and wore clothes, etc.). In the first episode, this female reporter cat was in some spooky house, and something weird happened that I don't remember. And this like musketeer cat (stupid hat, sword, etc.) came out of the painting and generally saved her life in the rest of the episodes while she saved him from looking like an idiot, since he came from a long time in the past. Also, the cats were obviously in love with each other but never told each other, except nearly once when they were about to drown in a submarine, I think. Anyway, it was cool, but I can't remember what it was!
The only other person I know who's heard of it is Matthew, but he can't remember it either.
Also, some weird thing that was like Knights of the Round Table except all the knights were dragons, and the squire was in love with the princess.
I can't think of any I still watch now, really... hmm.

  3. What was your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? Do you still like that dish?
Muesli. But now I don't eat it because I can't stand it. So I eat toast.
Apparently when I was teeny I lived on ReadyBrek. Ick.

  4. Were you scared to look under the bed or at the closet @ night? Why or why not?
    Um... no...

  5. Who was your first crush? Do you still know the person?
I can't remember having a crush on someone I knew in real life, actually...

  6. If you "celebrate" Halloween... what was your favorite costume?
Ah... well... we weren't allowed to trick or treat, because it's begging with menaces. When I was the age that people generally do that I was very much against it, seeing as I was obsessively Christian at the time. So, none.

  7. Were you a daydreamer? What did your daydreams consist of?
Definitely yes. Me, Sam G and Jo had this whole weird thing entitled 'crossphobia' which involved being stalked by crucifixes, robots, aliens and a guy who lived in a castle under a treestump. It was fun :) ...although damn scary at times.

  8. As a kid... what age did you think was sooooo old? What age do you think is OLD now?
    18. Now maybe... 40?

Spike Milligan is a dude

Well, I've done all my homework _except_ one integration question for Further Maths and the stupid one about cups that Gemma phoned me about. Gragh.
But, I wasn't in FM when it was set, so I have an excuse for that one seeing as I actually have no idea what to do to solve it.
Mum and Dad are at a wedding I think... and Lisa is partying. So, I'm babysitting Matthew. I think I'll demand payment :)
Oh, and my hair is really spiky and it jiggles when I move. Odd.
Today there are many, many programs about Spike Milligan, who I love. Also, Eddie Izzard was on one of them, also groovy.

spikified

Well, I now have shorter, spiky-er hair. But still it is the same boring colour in case any university interviewers have a fear of hairdye or something.
Matthew's hair is fun when it's just cut. If you poke it in different directions it feels different.
Got a letter from York telling me about the joy of maths, and one from Marloes (happy happy). And as it's only 12:15, not much else has happened.
Anyone see They Think It's All Over yesterday? Jonathan Ross climbing up onto the gymnastic bars was the funniest thing I'd seen all week :)
Ooh... my video is on the ep with Rimmer wearing a gingham dress. Haha!
-- scrawled by Katy on Saturday, October 5, 2002, 12:13 p.m.

hm

I don't know who's singing on TOTP but getting 'announced' and 'else' to rhyme is pretty impressive. If you convert the decimals of pi into letters using some complicated method that I don't really understand, around 3280769376 digits in you get "uu;pzxo;ttkckaty__eae;pnoc;iamdiqwl_f". Fame.

happy happy joy

Yesterday was officially the end of my birthday... birthday present from Lauren makes me happy. I think I already said this, but anyway... it's so fun I can say it twice, ne?
Just been emailing myself links about maths and synesthesia... random. Anyway.
Can't think of anything much else to say, so... have a groooovy day, beanies :)
(stupid spacebar doesn't work properly...)
